U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider of Illinois has criticised the Memorandum of Understanding recently signed between the United States and Iran, describing it as a “surrender agreement” and accusing President Donald Trump of bypassing Congress and the American people throughout the conflict and subsequent negotiations.

In a statement titled “Schneider Statement on Memorandum of Understanding Between U.S and Iran,” the Illinois lawmaker argued that President Trump had become “the first U.S. President to officially sign a surrender agreement,” insisting that the development was made “even more of a disgrace by the fact that he unilaterally started this war without the support of Congress or the American people.”

Schneider recalled that when President Trump initiated military action against Iran 111 days earlier, he had immediately called on congressional leadership to reconvene lawmakers and demand greater transparency from the administration.

He added that he had also urged the administration to “provide Congress with comprehensive classified briefings to understand the threat that justified today's actions, the goals of the operation, and the strategy for achieving these goals.”

According to the congressman, public hearings and open debate were necessary to ensure Americans understood the reasons behind the military campaign and its potential consequences.
