The governor disclosed that the move followed growing concerns over security challenges in parts of the state and his administration’s resolve to ensure that offenders face justice without unnecessary delays.
The Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has announced plans to establish a special court to handle kidnapping and cultism-related cases, declaring that convicted offenders would face swift prosecution under the law as part of the state's intensified crackdown on violent crimes.
The governor made the announcement on Thursday at the Edo State Police Command Headquarters in Benin City during the parade of suspected kidnappers and other criminal suspects arrested by security operatives.
Okpebholo said his administration was determined to rid Edo State of kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes, stressing that criminal elements would no longer find the state conducive for their activities.
According to him, the proposed special court would ensure speedy trial of suspects arrested for kidnapping and cult-related offences, while strengthening the state’s criminal justice system.
