An 18-year-old midfielder just completed 60 out of 66 passes on his World Cup debut against Brazil, and suddenly every big club in Europe is paying very close attention. Ayyoub Bouaddi, the Lille youngster who switched his international allegiance to Morocco earlier this year, is now firmly on Real Madrid’s radar as a potential summer signing.
Former Lille teammate Olivier Giroud has drawn the kind of comparison that makes scouts spill their coffee. The French striker likened Bouaddi to a blend of Sergio Busquets and Patrick Vieira. In English: Giroud sees a player who combines Busquets’ metronomic passing intelligence with Vieira’s physical dominance and box-to-box engine.
That’s a lofty ceiling for someone born on October 2, 2007. To put his age in perspective, Bouaddi was five years old when Busquets won Euro 2012 with Spain.
World Cup performances turning heads
Bouaddi’s breakthrough on the international stage has been swift and dramatic. FIFA approved his switch from France to Morocco on May 15, 2026, and he wasted no time justifying that decision. His World Cup debut came in Morocco’s group stage match against Brazil, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
