SpaceX has appointed Roelof Botha, the former steward of Sequoia Capital, to its board of directors. The appointment, disclosed in an 8-K filing on 17 June, comes less than a week after the company’s record-breaking $75 billion IPO.

Botha will serve as an independent director and join SpaceX’s audit committee immediately. He fills an existing vacancy on the board, which is chaired by Elon Musk.

The PayPal reunion

Botha and Musk go back more than 25 years. Both South African-born, they first worked together when Botha served as chief financial officer at PayPal, where Musk was a co-founder.
