The police have registered as many as 10 cases against individuals caught consuming drugs in this week alone. The drive is part of an ongoing crackdown on drug abuse, launched under the directions of City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh.According to the police, the initiative aims to achieve two objectives simultaneously: curbing drug abuse and dismantling drug supply networks. By booking drug consumers and gathering information about peddlers, the police hope to contain the growing menace more effectively. Similar cases have been registered at police stations across the city as part of the intensified enforcement drive. The police believe that tracking such cases will help them study the operating patterns of drug peddlers and identify areas where narcotics are being distributed. The majority of the cases involve marijuana consumption, while a smaller number relate to the use of synthetic drugs, a police officer said.Meanwhile, citing the increasing number of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) cases, the city police have approached the government seeking additional drug detection kits. Officials said that greater availability of these kits at police stations would help expedite investigations and preliminary testing, reducing dependence on forensic science laboratory (FSL) teams and speeding up the registration and processing of cases.
