A disturbing pattern of alleged lawlessness, extortion and abuse of power has emerged in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, where officials attached to the Kogi State Traffic Management Authority (KOTRAMA) are accused of turning traffic enforcement into a cash-generating operation.

SaharaReporters exclusively gathered that the task force, said to be operating with the backing of the state government, routinely compels motorists to pay between ₦20,000 and ₦50,000 for what victims describe as vague and undefined “traffic offences,” often without issuing official receipts or citing any known law.
One of the latest victims, Mr Ogwu Abel, a driver travelling to Abuja, narrated how he was intercepted on Wednesday around Nataco Junction in Lokoja after offering a ride to a passenger recovering from surgery.
