Harry Maguire is staying at Old Trafford, but at a significant discount. The Manchester United defender has signed a contract extension that slashes his base weekly wages from roughly £190,000 to approximately £100,000, a pay cut that would make most people flinch but still leaves him earning more in a week than many do in a year.

The new deal keeps Maguire at the club until June 2027, with an option for an additional year beyond that. Performance-based incentives, particularly tied to Champions League appearances, give him a path to earn beyond the base figure.

From record fee to restructured wages

Maguire arrived at Manchester United in August 2019 for £80 million, which at the time was a world-record fee for a defender.

Maguire was recalled to the England national team in March 2026, a signal that his form has improved enough to warrant international consideration again. That kind of external validation tends to strengthen a player’s negotiating position, which makes the significant pay cut all the more interesting.
