Russian forces are using one of their most capable unmanned systems brigades, the "Varyag" Brigade, along with special operations units in the temporarily occupied territories of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions in an effort to prevent the advance of Ukraine's Defense Forces.

This was reported to Ukrinform by Vladyslav Voloshyn, spokesperson for Ukraine's Southern Defense Forces.

"Russia's 50th Separate Special Purpose Brigade, known as 'Varyag,' is currently operating in Zaporizhzhia Region and the temporarily occupied part of Kherson Region. It is one of Russia's best unmanned systems units and belongs to the reserve of the Russian Commander-in-Chief. They are equipped with some of the best drones available, including experimental drones and fiber-optic drones with a range of up to 30 kilometers," Voloshyn said.

He also noted that the brigade is actively conducting reconnaissance along the riverbank, from Beryslav to Malokaterynivka and Prymorske. It supports intensified assault operations on the left bank from the air and also strikes targets on the right bank.

According to Voloshyn, the brigade is no less dangerous than the notorious "Rubicon" unit. He added that Russian forces are actively redeploying other special-purpose units to southern Ukraine as well.
