Speaking on his record after three years in office and following his confirmation as the governorship candidate of his party, Lawal said Zamfara was in a dire condition when he took over leadership of the state.

Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has said he never promised residents of the state that he would completely end insecurity immediately upon assuming office, insisting that his pledge was to take practical measures that would bring relief to the people.

The governor made the remarks during an interview conducted in Hausa with the BBC and monitored by SaharaReporters, where he defended his administration's handling of security challenges and highlighted significant progress achieved since he assumed office in 2023.

Speaking on his record after three years in office and following his confirmation as the governorship candidate of his party, Lawal said Zamfara was in a dire condition when he took over leadership of the state.

"As you asked, Allah entrusted us with this leadership in 2023. When I assumed office, Zamfara was in a very difficult situation in virtually every sector. First, insecurity had plagued the state for over 10 years. Secondly, in education, Zamfara ranked last among Nigeria's 36 states. The same was true in healthcare and other sectors,” he said.
