A Canadian tourist was tragically killed in an accidental firearm discharge during a bush braai at Kruger National Park, prompting an investigation by South African authorities.

A 69-year-old Canadian tourist was fatally wounded after an alleged accidental firearm discharge at a concession-operated picnic site in the Kruger National Park (KNP), prompting a police investigation.

South African National Parks (SANParks) confirmed the incident occurred on Wednesday evening at a concession-operated braai site near Phabeni Gate.

According to preliminary information released by SANParks, a private guide attached to the concession operator allegedly accidentally discharged a firearm, fatally injuring the tourist.

SANParks said the victim was part of a group that had booked outside the park and had entered KNP specifically to attend a bush braai experience offered by a private concession operator authorised to operate within the park.
