The government is intensifying its focus on high prices, presenting a new application, “PosoKanei,” that allows consumers to compare the prices of about 10,000 supermarket products.
The platform will be updated daily, provide real-time price information and include at least two months of price history for each product. Officials say greater transparency will encourage consumers to choose cheaper options and pressure retailers with higher prices to lower them.
Speaking during a meeting on the initiative, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said consumers are gaining another “weapon” in the fight against the rising cost of living, and described the app as a measure that strengthens competition and consumer awareness. The application also includes data on comparable product prices in other European Union countries.
Government spokesman Pavlos Marinakis said a €1 billion tax-cut package would be announced at the Thessaloniki International Fair, and said fiscal space already exists for additional relief measures.
