Dear Editor,
I write with a sense of pride and hope after listening to the speech delivered by the Member of Parliament for Falealupo, A’eau Leota Tima Le’avai, during the second reading of the Appropriation Bill 2026/27 in Parliament yesterday.
Quite simply, it was a breath of fresh air.
I take my hat off to A’eau for what was clearly a well-prepared speech, delivered with confidence, composure, and conviction. As a young Samoan tama’ita’i, I could not help but feel a sense of pride watching her stand in a chamber still largely dominated by men and speak with such eloquence and courage.
Although this was not her first speech in Parliament, there was something particularly striking about her contribution yesterday. She spoke directly and honestly, without unnecessary theatrics or grandstanding. Her delivery was soft-spoken, yet every point landed precisely where it needed to. It was thoughtful, respectful, and effective.
