The U.S. government released the official text of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) reached with the Islamic Republic late last week.

A senior Trump administration official has read a transcript of the memorandum of understanding that the U.S. signed with Iran to reporters. Officials have not released the text or the agreement.

The document has been published under the title "The Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding Between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran." The release of the text follows criticism over the U.S. government's initial reluctance to make it public.

"This agreement essentially allows us to immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, commits Iran to destroying nuclear dust, and establishes a mechanism where if Iran improves its behavior, we will gradually increase the level of sanctions relief and economic facilitation that can steer the country toward greater prosperity," the U.S. official said.

Under the memorandum, the document is scheduled to be officially signed on Friday. Its signing will trigger a 60-day window to negotiate the final terms of a comprehensive agreement.
