Border crossings between Bulgaria and North Macedonia are set to be temporarily blocked in a coordinated protest against what organizers describe as pressure and repression targeting people with Bulgarian identity in the neighboring country. The action is scheduled for Sunday, June 21, and will last two hours.
The planned blockade will affect all three official border points: Gyueshevo-Deve Bair, Stanke Lisichkovo-Delchevo, and Zlatarevo-Novo Selo. Organizers say the aim is to deliver a clear message to authorities in Skopje regarding recent developments they interpret as hostility toward Bulgarians in North Macedonia.
The demonstration is being organized by the associations “Kuberov Voin” and the “Macedonia Foundation,” which are calling on citizens to join the protest between 11:00 and 13:00 local time. They emphasize that the action has been coordinated with Bulgarian authorities and is intended as a symbolic expression of support rather than a prolonged disruption of cross-border traffic.
According to the organizers, the protest responds to what they describe as a pattern of persecution, including legal cases, reported attacks, arson incidents, and broader pressure against individuals identifying as Bulgarians in North Macedonia. They argue that recent developments require a visible public response from Bulgaria.
