Police said Wednesday they had dismantled an alleged criminal network that operated an illegal internet television service, generating more than €7 million in illicit profits and causing losses exceeding €50 million to legitimate providers.
After a months-long investigation, authorities carried out coordinated raids in Crete, Athens, Agrinio, Corfu and Samos, arresting seven suspects – six men and one woman.
Five additional people are accused of assisting the network, while 71 users of the unauthorized service also face charges.
Police said the group had been operating since at least 2017, running a sophisticated IPTV platform that illegally retransmitted subscription television content to customers in Greece and abroad. Investigators uncovered a database containing more than 86,000 users.
The suspects face charges including participation in a criminal organization, copyright infringement, violations of laws protecting subscription services and money laundering.
