A couple from the US and the UK were left blown away after trying a unique spin on a British classic. One of the pair called the delicious snack "one of the best things I've ever had"15:37, 17 Jun 2026A bag of crisps or a piece of fruit typically hits the spot when hunger strikes between meals, but occasionally you might crave something rather more substantial. That's where the legendary Scotch egg comes into play. A hard-boiled egg encased in sausage meat and covered in breadcrumbs before being baked or deep-fried — there are few things better.‌You might assume you can't improve on perfection, but one Yorkshire business has managed exactly that with its own twist on the beloved classic. One man who sampled the creation described it as "a revelation" and "one of the best things I've ever had".‌Taylor Marin, originally from Arizona in the USA, and her husband Alex Morris, from Preston, Lancashire, frequently post content featuring each other sampling foods and various aspects of their different cultures. They recently uploaded a clip from a trip to the historic city of York, where they encountered something that left them utterly amazed.‌In the footage, posted on Instagram, the couple can be seen visiting Shambles Sausage and Pie Company, situated on the historic street The Shambles, reports the Express. Speaking over footage of some of the delicacies displayed in the window, Alex says: "I'm in trouble here in Yorkshire, me."The clip then captures the pair seated at a picnic bench enjoying a mac and cheese pie. Taylor says: "I love that actually." Alex playfully teases our American cousins, remarking: "There's loads of Americans knocking about who've had mac and cheese all their life, but they've never actually used proper cheese, so they won't even know what it tastes like to have good cheese."Then came the main attraction — the York egg. This is the Shambles Sausage and Pie Company's unique spin on the classic Scotch egg, but with a delicious twist. It remains a hard-boiled egg encased in sausage meat, yet instead of breadcrumbs, it's wrapped in bacon.‌Brandishing the substantial treat towards the camera, Alex says: "Look at the state of that. How have I never heard of this?"He takes a bite, and says: "That's one of the best things I've ever had." Laughing, Taylor replies: "Seriously?"Describing the item in an Instagram post, the company said: "Our special 'York Egg' is proving very popular. Get one before they sell out. A golden hen's Scotch Egg wrapped in streaky bacon!"‌Alex continues: "Oh my God. This is a moment for the ages, this. Look at the egg trying to come out as well. It's a hard-boiled egg. If that had been a runny yolk that would have been a 12 out of ten."Content cannot be displayed without consentSampling a piece of the snack herself, Taylor says simply: "Oh wow." Alex adds: "If you've not been to York, get a York egg when you turn up. That's a revelation."‌Swinging the camera towards an unusual sight beside him, he adds: "And people next to us have parrots on their shoulders, so what more do you want?" Wrapping up his verdict, he declares: "Every time I come to York I'll be having a York egg at that same gaff. Every single time. I'm never gonna come to York and not have a York egg."Viewers flooded the comments section with astonishment, with many York locals admitting they were baffled to have never come across it before. One wrote: "I live in York and that's the first I've heard of it. Probably cus it's in tourist central! I'm checking that gaff out this weekend."Another commented: "I live in York and have never heard of, or have had, a York Egg?! I will be having one now though!"Article continues belowA third chimed in: "Lived in York all of my 35 years and only just finding out about this?! You guys are going to make this eight-months pregnant lady VERY happy when I get my hands on one." While someone else added: "I've never heard of one but I can guarantee by this time tomorrow I'll have eaten one."
