The “Balalayam” of the ‘vimanam’ at Sri Iravatheeswarar temple, Dharasuram, on the outskirts of Kumbakonam was held on June 17 to facilitate the renovation works.According to Prince Babaji Rajah Bhonsle Chattrapathi, titular head of the Maratha royal family of Thanjavur and hereditary trustee of the Palace Devasthanam, overseeing 88 temples, including the Dharasuram temple, the last consecration of Sri Iravatheeswarar temple was held in 2004.Since it had been decided to perform the consecration after a gap of 22 years, the powers of the ‘vimanas’ in the temple were transferred to a line drawing image of the ‘vimanam’ on Wednesday to facilitate the renovation works, he said.
