Self-driving taxis are coming to one of Europe’s wealthiest cities. WeRide and Uber plan to launch a commercial robotaxi service in the Greater Zurich region of Switzerland by late 2026, marking the fifth city in an international rollout across the Middle East and Europe.

The service will be available directly through the Uber app, meaning riders in Zurich won’t need to download yet another mobility platform.

WeRide already has a foothold in Switzerland

This isn’t WeRide’s first rodeo in Switzerland. The Guangzhou-founded company has been operating an autonomous shuttle service, called the Robobus, at Zurich Airport since June 2025.

WeRide received Switzerland’s first passenger driverless robotaxi permit from FEDRO, the country’s federal roads authority, back in November 2025.
