G7 leaders concluded their summit in Évian, France, by reaffirming what they described as “unwavering support” for Ukraine, pledging continued military, economic, and diplomatic backing as the war enters another critical phase.
In a joint declaration issued overnight, the group of seven major economies restated their commitment to Ukraine’s “freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” while also emphasizing what they called renewed momentum on the battlefield. The statement said Kyiv’s resilience had created conditions for expanded assistance, including faster deliveries of air defense systems, interceptors, and long-range weapons.
The leaders also agreed to deepen economic pressure on Russia, particularly through additional sanctions targeting the energy and financial sectors. The document linked this approach to wider geopolitical developments, including a US-Iran framework agreement that G7 officials say opens space to intensify pressure on Moscow’s war economy.
According to the declaration, members are prepared to consider further restrictions, including measures affecting Russian oil and gas exports. Officials also indicated a willingness to expand sanctions as part of a broader strategy to constrain Russia’s ability to finance the war.
