Leaders of the G7 countries have agreed to step up pressure on Russia, including through sanctions targeting the energy sector, and to provide Ukraine with additional air defense capabilities.

According to Le Monde, citing a diplomatic source following a G7 session on Ukraine in Évian, France, the leaders reached a consensus on strengthening support for Kyiv.

“The leaders agreed to increase pressure on Russia, notably through sanctions on oil and gas,” the diplomatic source said.

The source added that the G7 countries also intend to support Ukraine on the battlefield, including by supplying air defense systems and other assistance that will help Ukraine better defend itself and consolidate its gains.

Ukraine was one of the key topics on the agenda during the second day of the G7 summit. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky took part in the session “Building Peace and Security for Ukraine and Europe.”
