Lindy Swales, Tami Alves, Kirsty Scriven with their mother Brenda Scriven. She disappeared in a flood in July 2016.
Almost a decade after Durban floods claimed the life of Brenda Scriven just days before her retirement, her daughters have turned their family's journey through grief, uncertainty and healing into a book they hope will inspire others facing their own hardships.
Scriven disappeared on July 25, 2016, after torrential rain and severe flooding swept through parts of Durban. The 59 year old was on her way home from work when she vanished.
Her vehicle was later found in Glen Anil and it was believed that floodwaters had swept her away. Despite extensive search efforts, she was never found.
A year later, the Durban High Court declared her legally dead, bringing a painful chapter in the family's search to a close.
