The three boys died in the crash

A 71-year-old great-grandmother has been convicted of three counts of premeditated murder after deliberately driving her vehicle off Bainskloof Pass, resulting in the deaths of her three great-grandchildren.

The tragic incident occurred on November 20, 2021, when the woman drove through roadwork barriers and before she plunged approximately 80 metres down the mountainside.

Killed in the crash were two-year-old Joshua Booysen, five-year-old Gradwell Booysen and eight-year-old Caleb Booysen. De Villiers survived the incident.

The Worcester Regional Court previously heard that the three boys had been living in foster care for about six months before their deaths after concerns relating to their parents' substance abuse led to their removal from the family home.
