Snap is to launch its first pair of augmented-reality glasses for consumers in the autumn, the company said, as it debuted a product that it argued will eventually replace smartphones.

The upcoming Snap Specs device is planned to cost $2,195 (£1,635), with launches expected in the US, the UK and France, in a major bet for the Snapchat parent.

Snap created a subsidiary called Specs Inc in January to focus on development of smart glasses, an area it’s been involved in for about a decade, since it launched camera-only glasses in 2016.
