Australia has lowered its travel advice for several countries in the Middle East, but warned the security situation in parts of the region could still “deteriorate rapidly with little warning”.It comes ahead of the US and Iran’s formal signing of a peace deal on Friday. Smartraveller now advises to “Reconsider your need to travel (Level 3)” to Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, lowered from “Do Not Travel (Level 4)”. Some areas within Israel remain “Do Not Travel”.Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Assistant Foreign Affairs Minister Matt Thistlethwaite said in a joint statement the Department of Foreign Affairs had assessed the conditions in the specified countries and determined it appropriate to drop the level. But both warned that Level 3 “remains a high threshold”. “We continue to urge Australians to postpone non-essential travel,” the statement read. DFAT advises that ‘Reconsider your need to travel’ also means ‘reconsider your need to transit’. “If you need to transit, stay as short a time as possible eliminate unnecessary activities,” the Smartraveller update read.“If you’re in these locations, stay vigilant follow local advice. “The situation may change at short notice advice levels may be raised if security conditions deteriorate.”DFAT continues to advise ‘Do Not Travel’ to Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Palestine, Syria and Yemen, and ‘Reconsider your need to travel’ to Jordan, Oman and Saudi Arabia. The government raised the travel advice for a number of countries in the Middle East in March after the outbreak of war between the US, Israel and Iran.
