Overwhelmed with gratitude and emotion, pastor and teacher couple Reverend Sekoa Levasa and Teevale Faatonu Levasa from Matautu Lefaga are thankful to God after their children won prizes in the Samoa Observer short story writing competition.
Their son, Sekoa Junior Sekoa Levasa, won first prize for Gagana Samoa Writing in Year 12 and requested that his work be dedicated to his grandfather, Taiofiti Tavita Levasa. Their daughter, Sulu Jasmine Sekoa Levasa, won first prize for English Writing in Year 11 and requested that her work be dedicated to her nana and great-grandmother, her namesake, Sulu Muaialii Leaupepe.
They described the achievement as an answered prayer and a blessing made possible through their children's hard work.
Mrs Levasa, 42, a teacher at Savaia Primary School, said she does not boast about the achievement but remains grateful that the opportunity was available and that the children could perform well.
“I do not have any particular feelings about it, nor am I boasting, but I am thankful because there was an opportunity and because the children could achieve a level like they did last week,” she said.
