Ferrel Govender

AFTER spending almost a year-and-a-half in prison, Ferrel Govender seeks bail, citing new facts ahead of his murder trial.

Last week, Govender, 41, represented by attorney Avir Maharaj and advocate Cyril Mlotshwa, brought an urgent application in the Durban High Court against the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in KwaZulu-Natal.

This followed the DPP’s refusal to remit the matter to the magistrate’s court for a bail application on new facts.

Govender, in his founding affidavit, said he was supposed to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on June 10, which was a holding date to ascertain their position.
