A new book by a renowned economist and former Group Executive Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Efiong Akan, has reignited discussions about the ownership and future of Bakassi, with prominent stakeholders calling for renewed efforts to reclaim the disputed territory.

The book, “Uruan: The Iboku People of the Geographical South Eastern Nigeria and Their Bakassi Economic Zone,” also harped on the imperative of preserving the history, culture and identity of the Uruan people as distinguished Nigerians, scholars, business leaders and cultural enthusiasts gathered for its public presentation at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday.

Speaking at the event, the author appealed to legal practitioners and stakeholders present to support ongoing efforts aimed at revisiting issues surrounding Bakassi.
