Noah Lyles has beaten Australian teenage sprinting sensation Gout Gout over 150m in Ostrava, Czech Republic, running a world-best time of 14.67s.Lyles, racing out of lane seven, one outside Gout, was victorious by one tenth of a second over South Africa’s Sinesipho Dambile (14.78s). Gout came third and also dipped under the 15-second barrier (14.96s) in still conditions. It is, technically, the best run ever for this distance as a specific race — Lyles bettered the 14.92s time that Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson ran this April. However World Athletics, the sport’s governing body, do not recognise the event for world record purposes.Usain Bolt hit the 150m mark at 14.44s en route to his 19.19s 200m world record at the 2009 World Championships. Lyles has repeatedly split 14.70s for the distance when racing half a lap on the track, and therefore running the bend. He’s also second on the all-time list for 150m in a straight line, behind Bolt.Lyles and Gout embraced after their race on Wednesday (Sona Maleterova/Getty Images)Significantly this is Lyles’ seventh win of the calendar year and a first competitive outing for him against Gout, 18, who is a training partner of his under coach Lance Brauman in Florida.“It was about time. The world record was quite slow,” Lyles told reporters after. “This feeling (to become the fastest in the world) — it is nothing new. I said I could have a better turn. It is very hard to get used to running in a staggered 150 start.”
