There was a time when David and Victoria Beckham rarely had to wonder what their eldest son was up to. For years, they threw their support behind each new reinvention, whether Brooklyn fancied himself a photographer, author, chef or even "hot sauce" entrepreneur. These days, however, they often find themselves piecing together fragments of his life through social media posts and snippets heard on the grapevine. The latest reminder of that growing divide landed on Monday night.Like millions of others, they watched online as Brooklyn appeared in a campaign for delivery service DoorDash that appeared to make light of the family rift. “They had absolutely no idea,” one friend claimed. “That is the reality now…they often find things out when everyone else does.”The episode has become the latest example of what those closest to the family describe as an increasingly painful “information vacuum” surrounding Brooklyn. David and Victoria increasingly feel they are watching major developments in their son’s life unfold from afar, with one friend describing it as living on “scraps of information”.They said: “They hear fragments about what Brooklyn is getting up to…but it’s practically impossible. They worry - as they have from the beginning - that he is being isolated. There is the occasional text to the grandparents but that's about it.”That Nicola holds an unhealthy sway over their son has been a recurring theme over the last 12 months, and an accusation that Brooklyn’s team has repeatedly batted away. “He is very much his own man,” they’ve told me repeatedly. But after Brooklyn’s starring turn in an ad mocking his family turmoil, the finger of blame has once again aligned on Nicola. One said: “There is a general concern that Nicola is calling the shots and pushing him out to make money….and he’s too naive to appreciate the damage it is doing.“It’s just really sad and confusing why he would do this, and goes against everything they have said about wanting peace and privacy.” In the ad, Brooklyn says to the camera: “You’re probably wondering why I’m watching the FIFA World Cup 2026 from home…” Smirking Brooklyn then laughs: “It’s a long story.” On the face of it, those comments alone were disappointing enough for the family. But look a little more closely, and there’s a plethora of hidden jibes which makes things even more upsetting.A stack of unopened letters sit on a coffee table, a less than subtle nod to his family desperately trying to get in touch. Brooklyn has previously been criticised for still wearing his Patek Philippe Nautilus watch which was a 21st birthday present from his dad. Perhaps in a bid to cast aside this association, he places a new one on the coffee table. There is also a snowglobe - potentially of a London scene with a red bus - which fans believe could be a reference to his mum.Victoria has previously spoken about her cherished handmade snow globes which were given to her by her children during Elton John's wedding. A source said: “It goes without saying but this all feels a little cruel. He knows his parents in particular have been hit for six by the estrangement. Who on earth thought it was a good look to trade off the family heartache.”Brooklyn’s apparent willingness to twist the knife is in sharp contrast to his family. When dad David was asked about the row at the unveiling of his Hollywood star, he politely declined to answer.“To be honest, I’m sorry to stop you there, but that’s a private matter,” David replied. “That’s the one thing that I don’t want to talk about.” His brother Romeo was also asked in the street about the estrangement by a photographer, to which he replied simply: “We love him. We love him."Whether they would be quite so forgiving publicly after events of the last week, however, remains to be seen. It comes after Brooklyn’s PR team issued an extraordinary statement accusing the Beckhams of setting up paparazzi shots of Harper arriving at Brooklyn’s house. The 14-year-old was spotted attempting to deliver a note to her brother just hours after the Hollywood ceremony, before realising he wasn’t home. "That photographers were in place as the letter was hand delivered says it all - this was choreographed for the cameras," was the withering response from Berooklyn and his wife’s publicist.Privately, the accusation left the family - and Harper - devastated. Understandably, it has left them more than a little furious too. “It’s a bit rich given Nicola has been accused of staging pictures before,” says a friend. “It’s also unbelievable when they are willing to throw a child under a bus. We are talking about a little sister merely dropping off a note because she has no contact and misses him. Brooklyn is increasingly isolated from reality.”There are concerns among friends of the Beckhams that Brooklyn’s crusade against his family will carry on. Ominously, the advert for DoorDash promised “more soon.” The pal added: “Both Nicola and Brooklyn’s careers have not really taken off….and if they were really honest with themselves, this feud is the only thing they are known for. Worryingly, it is something they can monetise….and as this advert shows, they have no qualms about doing so.”
