Defending the recent memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington to end the 40-Day War, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the most critical aspect of the deal is that Iran will never acquire a nuclear weapon. At the same time, he emphasized that, from the U.S. perspective, removing Iran's enriched uranium stockpiles is more of a "psychological" issue than an economic one.
Meeting with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, on Tuesday, June 16, on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in France, Trump said: "The only thing that really matters to me is that Iran never has a nuclear weapon, and the agreement states this very clearly."
Referring to Iran’s enriched uranium stockpiles, he added: "These materials have very little material value, but psychologically it is important that they are removed from Iran." Trump also claimed that Iran's nuclear facilities have "crumbled" and that transferring the existing uranium is a complex process that must ultimately be carried out.
The U.S. president warned that if Iran seeks to acquire nuclear weapons in the future, "hell will rain down upon it." He also claimed that, prior to the outbreak of the war, Iran was only two weeks away from building a nuclear weapon.
