New plant labels across garden sections, the refurbishment of public facilities, and improvements to garden displays are among the upgrades visitors can expect at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden over the next year.

This, while a drive to find suitably qualified horticultural experts will get under way to ensure all garden displays and collections are properly curated and managed.

The development comes after claims by an environmentalist and horticulturist that Kirstenbosch was in a state of decay, neglect, and poor financial management.

In response, Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE), Willie Aucamp, alongside renowned plant ecologist Professor Eugene Moll, paid a recent visit to the garden, which included the South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) CEO, Shonisani Munzhedzi.
