Bobi Wine accused the Ugandan military establishment of escalating political repression and targeting legal practitioners involved in cases against the government and senior security officials.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Uganda’s controversial military chief and son of President Yoweri Museveni, has said that the release of the detained opposition figure, former Kampala Lord Mayor and senior constitutional lawyer Erias Lukwago, depended not on the rule of law but on the intervention of his wife.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Kainerugaba wrote, "My beloved wife Charlotte has convinced me to release the criminal Lukwago. I will release him because of my love for her."
On Monday, Ugandan opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, condemned the abduction and detention of Lukwago after Kainerugaba shared a photograph appearing to show the lawyer blindfolded and handcuffed in custody.
My beloved wife Charlotte has convinced me to release the criminal Lukwago. I will release him because of my love for her.
