Ugandan opposition leader and National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has alleged that former Kampala Lord Mayor and senior lawyer, Erias Lukwago, was violently abducted by military operatives on Monday morning in Kampala.
In a statement posted on his official X account, Bobi Wine claimed that armed soldiers stormed Lukwago's residence in Wakaliga and whisked him away to an unknown location shortly before he was due to serve court summons on General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Yoweri Museveni and Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People's Defence Forces.
According to Bobi Wine, Lukwago's arrest was linked to ongoing legal battles involving detained opposition figure Dr. Kizza Besigye and a separate lawsuit filed against Muhoozi over allegations of abduction and torture.
"Just learnt of the violent abduction, this morning, of former Kampala Lord Mayor, Advocate Erias Lukwago as he prepared to serve Court Summons upon Museveni's son, Muhoozi Kainerugaba," Bobi Wine wrote.
He added that Lukwago was one of the lead lawyers representing Besigye in a treason case which opposition groups have repeatedly described as politically motivated.
