A woman has petitioned the District Superintendent of Police alleging that a financier was coercing her to repay ₹6 lakh on a loan of ₹2 lakh and had suggested that she sell her kidney to clear the debt.In a complaint submitted on Tuesday (June 16, 2026), Suguna of Surampatti said that she had initially borrowed ₹10,000 from a resident in October 2024 to meet family expenses. Over time, she borrowed a total of ₹2 lakh in instalments and had been repaying the amount along with interest. However, she alleged that the financier, identified as Krishnakumar of Veerappanchatram, was demanding ₹6 lakh by levying exorbitant interest, including interest-on-interest, and had been continuously harassing her for repayment. Ms. Suguna stated that she had issued a cheque from her bank account as security while receiving the loan and that the financier was using the cheque to threaten her.According to the complaint, the financier allegedly told her that if she was unable to repay the amount, she should sell her kidney. He reportedly claimed that he knew people who could arrange the sale of a kidney and was familiar with hospitals where such transactions could be facilitated. She alleged that he repeatedly pressured her to sell her kidney and use the proceeds to settle the debt. The woman said the harassment had caused her severe mental distress and urged the police to take action against the financier. Published - June 16, 2026 06:53 pm IST
