The source explained that security personnel mounted a strong resistance to prevent the gunmen from breaching the institute's premises.
The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, near Jos in Plateau State, has confirmed a security incident around its premises following a late-night attack by gunmen that reportedly left three persons dead, including a police officer and another security operative.
While the institute, in an official statement on Tuesday, acknowledged that “a security incident occurred in the vicinity of the Institute in the early hours of today,” eyewitnesses and staff members disclosed that heavily armed assailants launched a coordinated attack on the facility on Monday night, engaging security personnel in a gun battle and causing multiple casualties.
According to eyewitness accounts reported, the attackers stormed the institute at about 11:40pm and opened fire on security operatives manning the gate, triggering an exchange of gunfire with security personnel stationed at the facility.
A staff member of NIPSS, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack and described the panic that swept through the institution as gunshots rang out.
