On June 16, the United Kingdom introduced a new, large-scale package of sanctions targeting Russia’s shadow fleet, LNG tankers, and financial networks used to circumvent Western sanctions.

According to Ukrinform, the British government’s press service reported this.

It is noted that today’s sanctions further intensify pressure on Russia’s aging shadow fleet, targeting more than 20 oil tankers under new and expanded measures introduced last month.

The UK is also imposing restrictions on those suspected of facilitating the illegal trade in Russian oil, introducing additional sanctions against ship insurers and other shipping services.

The UK became the first G7 country to impose sanctions on several liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers recently acquired by Russia to serve the sanctioned Russian Arctic LNG 2 project, which exports millions of tons of LNG.
