The national hospital's generator failed to kick in on time once again, leaving the hospital without power for a while as an unplanned power outage happened on Tuesday, around 11:35 am, affecting the Lefaga and Hospital feeders.
A person posted that power had been out for 20 minutes and the generators had not kicked in, and stated that it was fortunate that their family member was not on any machine requiring power.
"I feel for the doctors and nurses who are doing their best with the limited resources they have! Power outage and they are still working to ensure that everyone is OK," the person stated.
This is not the first incident where the hospital generator has not kicked in. In February 2025, Samoa Observer reported a nationwide blackout that exposed critical vulnerabilities at the national hospital, leaving the facility without backup power for about an hour.
In December 2025, generators took nearly 30 minutes to activate, prompting a formal clarification from the Ministry of Health, which stated the delay was an engineered 47-second manufacturer safety protocol rather than a failure.
