With youth unemployment in South Africa sitting at nearly 61%, Afrika Tikkun Group CEO Marc Lubner says meaningful change will only come through a long-term, holistic approach that supports disadvantaged children from early childhood through to employment.
Youth Month should serve as a reminder of the urgent need to address South Africa's youth unemployment crisis, according to Afrika Tikkun Group CEO Marc Lubner.
Recent Statistics South Africa figures show that nearly 4.7 million young people are unemployed, with the youth unemployment rate standing at almost 61%.
Lubner said efforts to tackle unemployment should begin long before young people enter the job market.
“To try and intervene when they are already job seekers is too little, too late,” he said, advocating for a holistic approach that addresses the effects of poverty and inequality from infancy through to adulthood.
