BAGUIO CITY — Mayor Benjamin Magalong has ordered stricter inspections and sanctions against food establishments following a viral video that appeared to show a rat inside a bowl of sinigang served at a local buffet restaurant.

The city government has launched an investigation into the incident and apologized to affected customers. Magalong said the restaurant would face penalties once the probe is completed.

“We really need to sanction that restaurant. After the investigation, there will be charges, and the owner of that establishment will face corresponding penalties,” he said.
