Jamie Sabau / Getty ImagesJune 15, 2026 7:10 pm EDT Updated San Diego Padres reliever Ron Marinaccio received a three-game suspension for what Major League Baseball deemed an intentional plunking of Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson, the league announced Monday, adding that it had also given Padres manager Craig Stammen a one-game ban.Marinaccio has elected to file an appeal. Stammen will serve his suspension Monday night while bench coach Randy Knorr manages the Padres in their series opener against the Cardinals in St. Louis. Both Marinaccio and Stammen also received undisclosed fines.Marinaccio was ejected from Saturday’s 9-3 win against the Orioles after hitting Henderson in the ribs with a ninth-inning fastball. Moments later, after coming onto the field to argue, Stammen was also ejected. The sequence came four innings after Orioles starter Trey Gibson struck shortstop Xander Bogaerts in the helmet with a 93.5 mph sinker, drawing a vocal response from the Padres dugout, which had already seen Gibson nearly hit third baseman Manny Machado with another errant sinker. At the time, no warnings were issued.
