Major League Baseball has suspended Milwaukee Brewers reliever Abner Uribe for one game and fined him an undisclosed amount for his “inappropriate” crotch chop celebration directed toward the St. Louis Cardinals dugout during the eighth inning on Tuesday.Uribe, who is appealing the suspension, had already been criticized by his manager, Pat Murphy, who said after the game that the gesture was “unacceptable.”The incident occurred after Uribe recorded the final out in the eighth inning, with his team leading 6-0. Following a called third strike on Alec Burleson, Uribe turned toward the Cardinals dugout and made three crotch chops — a move popularized by the professional wrestling group D-Generation X in the 1990s. Burleson actually challenged the called strike ruling, but it was confirmed on ABS review.
