Tottenham Hotspur has set its sights on Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali as a priority midfield signing this summer. The problem: so has nearly every other big club in the Premier League.
The Italian international, who turned 26 this year, has emerged as one of the most coveted midfielders in English football. Newcastle has reportedly slapped a price tag of £80-100 million on his head. Arsenal, Manchester City, and Manchester United have all expressed interest in the midfielder.
Tonali joined Newcastle from AC Milan in 2023. The ban kept him sidelined for the better part of a season after he received a ten-month suspension stemming from an Italian betting investigation, and while he’s since returned and reestablished himself as a pivotal figure in Newcastle’s midfield, it’s a chapter that still lingers in discussions about his marketability.
Newcastle’s recent failure to qualify for European competitions has added fuel to the transfer speculation. Tonali reportedly wants to play at the highest level, and his agent is reportedly in contact with multiple suitors. Newcastle recently extended Tonali’s contract, strengthening their leverage and allowing the club to demand its full asking price.
