FC Barcelona has made the permanent signing of Egyptian forward Hamza Abdelkarim official, paying Al Ahly a reported €1.5 million plus potential add-ons. The 18-year-old initially arrived at the Catalan club on loan in February 2026 before Barcelona activated the buy-option clause.
Born on January 1, 2008, Abdelkarim is one of the youngest players to feature in Barcelona’s pipeline this season. He came through the Al Ahly youth academy before making the leap to European competition.
From Cairo to Camp Nou
Abdelkarim joined Barcelona on a temporary basis in February 2026, giving the club roughly four months to evaluate him in their system before pulling the trigger on a permanent deal. By late May or early June, the club had seen enough to exercise the option.
Abdelkarim has represented Egypt at various youth levels. With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, he is widely regarded as a key figure for the Egyptian senior national team’s ambitions on the global stage.
