OTTAWA—The Carney government has introduced legislation that would overhaul Canada’s privacy laws in what would be the first major update in the digital age.

The highly anticipated legislation includes a crackdown on surveillance pricing, the right for Canadians to demand that companies delete their personal data or move it elsewhere, as well as new transparency measures around algorithm use.
