Scientists say the red deer population on Mount Parnitha remains under pressure from wolves and human activity and should be monitored for at least two more years. A 2025 study estimates the population at about 132 animals, with a likely range of 75 to fewer than 234. Researchers found a small breeding population and a sharp imbalance between males and females. At the same time, red deer have expanded beyond Parnitha, with established groups recorded in Dervenochoria, the Asopos-Tanagra area and as far as Thiva. [Intime News]
