President Volodymyr Zelensky said he discussed with U.S. President Donald Trump the possibility of organizing a meeting with Russia on American soil. According to Zelensky, such a format could make it more difficult for Russian President Vladimir Putin to refuse negotiations aimed at ending the war.
Zelensky made the remarks during an address to the EU Intergovernmental Conference, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"We offered Putin to meet anywhere where real decisions to end the war could be made. He does not want that. And we discussed with the U.S. and France the possibility of a meeting with Russia around the G7, with all democratic nations represented. Putin does not want it," Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian President added that he spoke with Trump the previous day about the possibility of organizing such a meeting in the United States in a format "where Putin would find it much harder to refuse, at least to President Trump."
"We will see what comes of it. If Russia rejects this chance as well, additional pressure will be needed," he said.
