President Cyril Ramaphosa has urged South Africans to uphold the Constitution, reject violence and avoid allowing concerns over illegal immigration to fuel xenophobia or social division.
The Presidency quashed claims that Ethiopian nationals were killed in xenophobic attacks in South Africa, calling them inaccurate.
In a statement released on Monday, the Presidency stated that "the circumstances surrounding these fatalities are linked to organised crime," an issue that has been reported to the public and remains under active investigation by law enforcement authorities.
Furthermore, SAPS has confirmed that the situation involving the Mozambican nationals is presently being investigated.
This comes after World Health Organization (WHO) Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that the shift toward xenophobia in South Africa represents a tragic abandonment of the nation's hard-won fight for freedom and independence.
