The president reiterated that the enforcement of immigration laws remains the sole responsibility of the government and not private groups or vigilante organisations.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has warned anti-immigrant groups and their leaders against inciting lawlessness and violence, vowing that his government will take action against individuals and organisations exploiting public concerns over illegal immigration for political, personal or criminal gain.

Addressing the nation on immigration-related matters on Sunday, Ramaphosa stressed that while many South Africans have legitimate concerns about illegal immigration, such concerns should not be used to fuel unrest or division.

"We must not allow groups, to use the legitimate concerns of South Africans to destabilize our country through inciting lawlessness and violence,” he said in the address posted on his official X handle.

“We will act against forces who are exploiting the concerns of our people about illegal immigration to further their own political personal and criminal agendas. We will not be fooled or influenced by social media campaigns that spread misinformation.”
