Subsequent intelligence gathering led police to another suspected hideout within the same area, resulting in the arrest of additional suspects, including Shafiu.

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested a pregnant woman identified as Hauwa Shafiu, accused of supplying food and logistics to a notorious bandit and kidnapping network operating on the outskirts of Abuja.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, disclosed on Monday, while parading the woman arrested alongside four other suspects before journalists in Abuja, that the arrest followed a series of operations targeting bandits and kidnappers in the Byazin area of the territory.

According to Sanusi, security operatives launched a clearance operation on June 11, 2026, during which several suspected bandits were arrested, some were killed, and kidnapped victims were rescued.

Subsequent intelligence gathering led police to another suspected hideout within the same area, resulting in the arrest of additional suspects, including Shafiu.
