Groups of retirees staged protest rallies across several Iranian cities on Sunday, June 14, demanding the release of imprisoned activists and urgent government action to address their livelihood grievances.
According to published reports, the demonstrations took place in various provinces and major cities, including Tehran, Qazvin, Arak, Gilan, Khuzestan, and Kermanshah. Holding placards and chanting slogans, the participants protested against their deteriorating economic conditions, systemic discrimination, and the government’s continued indifference to their demands.
Beyond economic grievances, the demonstrating retirees called for the immediate release of jailed workers, teachers, and other detained protesters. The crowds chanted slogans such as, “Imprisoned workers, imprisoned teachers, imprisoned protesters must be freed!”
Protest rallies by retirees have become a consistent feature of labor and civil demonstrations in Iran in recent years. In recent weeks and months, pensioners across various cities have repeatedly taken to the streets to protest their sharply declining purchasing power and the soaring cost of living.
